STUDIO 108.

Now that it’s officially been one month since purchasing… yes, purchasing — this building, I figured it was time to finally share a few updates.

The new home of Crystal C Photography is

108 2nd Ave NW, Waseca, MN.

.This space holds so much family history. Beginning in  1969 and spanning to 1980, this building was owned by my family and home to the Horseshoe Bar — the original Horseshoe,  before it expanded next door into what was most recently the American Taphouse restaurant.

Owning this building has always been a dream of mine, just not one I expected to happen this soon. My first vision was to reopen the Horseshoe Bar someday, maybe 10+ years down the road. For now, she’s become the home of my photography business — and maybe a few side projects along the way. Stepping back into this building, all these years later truly feels full-circle in the best way.

When renovating, I was intentional about preserving as much of that history as possible + uncovering hidden history (the class of '80 underneath bathroom wallpaper) as well as the wallpaper my grandmother originally chose for the women's bathroom.

More pieces of history that were also  preserved  . . .

  • The original 60+ year-old ceramic tile floors were deep cleaned and given a fresh shine coat, bringing them back to life.

Shoutout to Shine Way Services—I truly can’t recommend them enough. Despite my tight timeline, they were incredibly accommodating, and they’re hands down some of the kindest business owners I’ve ever worked with.

  • The iconic horseshoe railing got some much-needed love and paint.
  • And of course, I fully embraced the retro pink tiled bathroom which my grandmother picked out (my favorite color, by the way).

Honoring the past while creating something new just felt right.

The last month has been filled with paperwork, getting systems + accounts in place, handling upkeep, repairs, renovating, scraping, sanding, painting, and learning how to wear all the hats that come with owning a building. Add in bruises, a little blood, a lot of sweat, (a few cocktails), and countless late nights — and somehow, it’s all been worth it.

I couldn’t share this milestone without acknowledging the people who made it possible. This space didn’t come together because of me alone — it came together because of family and friends who showed up with paint rollers, tools, ladders, and willing hands.

From tearing things down to painting walls, hanging wallpaper, and jumping in wherever help was needed, they gave their time, energy, and encouragement without hesitation. Their support carried this vision from an idea into something real, and without them, this dream simply wouldn’t exist in the way it does today. I’m endlessly grateful for the love and people that helped build this space alongside me

While so much has been accomplished in just one month, there’s still more work ahead. In the coming months, this space will continue to evolve — with projects to finish, details to refine, and ideas slowly coming to life. I’m learning to embrace the process instead of rushing the end result, allowing this building to grow alongside the business it holds. Every step forward is part of the story, and I’m excited to keep sharing the progress as this space becomes even more complete.

But for now… to embrace the progress that has been made - I’m opening the doors for "New Studio Minis."

January 24th + 25th.

Link to book will be posted Saturday January 3rd @ 9AM.

A small celebration of a big dream, a new chapter, and a space built with heart. Hope to see you then:)
